With some 250 IT consultants in the Baltic region, Baltic Quality today provides services in software development, application management, administration and IT system testing. All assignments are conducted with Swedish external resource planning and with Swedish quality requirement and standards.

The engineers that Baltic Quality works with in Riga, Tallinn and Vilnius are highly trained and very experienced. Riga, for instance, was a renowned engineering city during the Soviet era. It has a prestigious university and a large number of engineers who have lived and worked in the city for generations.
“We chose to focus on the Baltic region because of its geographic closeness and the similar culture. The engineers are extremely skilled, knowledgeable, loyal and level-headed. It takes an hour to fly there and we have effective meetings, we go out and eat together and all the peripherals are excellent. We feel secure,” says Leif Eriksson.

In this market survey, the customers in Sweden focused on lower costs and flexibility as key factors for choosing Baltic Quality to work with.
“Our people have a very high level of expertise regardless of their professional role. Price-wise we are around 50% lower than what IT companies pay in Sweden, while in terms of expertise we are ahead of Sweden and Norway. After a while, the customers realise that they are dealing with sharp individuals with a competitive offering. Our customers are impressed,” says Peter Karlsson, Baltic Quality.

It is becoming more common for IT companies in Sweden to try new delivery models. Recruiting and de-recruiting consultants and personnel costs money. As a result, outsourcing has grown in popularity and is also being embraced by smaller and medium-sized companies.
Once the customers have taken the step of outsourcing parts of their capacity, cultural and geographic closeness are decisive for choosing nearshoring over offshoring. When it comes to the possibilities for nearshoring, our customers are generally in agreement, that this market will continue to increase in volume. Experience of collaborations with consultancy firms in South-East Asia have not been good.
“Compared with employing your own personnel and all the work that it entails, this is an extremely attractive solution. In the projects where we use leased personnel there is hardly any difference. In some ways consultants can be more effective as they have not accumulated a list of existing systems to maintain. In our view, scalability runs more smoothly if someone else takes care of it and supplies the know-how. Recruiting people takes a lot of time. BQ has also taken care of the training of new resources. Their senior consultants train their junior counterparts,” says Joakim Billing, ReadSoft Expert Systems.
How to sustain customer benefit
In the market survey, Baltic Quality’s customers say that the company creates the greatest customer benefit by continuing to maintain high-quality, dependable deliveries and by continuing to be competitive in terms of cost and flexibility. Several are of the opinion that Bridge Management is a key part of BQ’s brand, profile, business idea and concept. The customers also expect BQ to sustain the same flexibility, delivery quality and security it has until now – irrespective of future expansions and market challenges.
